Basic Features of the Archival Holdings on the History of the House of Liechtenstein
The Uherské Hradiště Regional State Archives currently manages 1644 archive holdings and archive collections amounting to 3348 linear meters. These include, in particular, documents from state offices with district jurisdiction, towns and municipalities, schools, agricultural cooperatives, parish offices of the Roman Catholic Church and associations.
The southern part of today's Uherské Hradiště district, which belonged to the Uherský Ostroh dominion until 1850, is connected with the history of the House of Liechtenstein. The Archive města Uherský Ostroh [Archive of the Town of Uherský Ostroh] should therefore be mentioned first and foremost. The documents of the town of Uherský Ostroh have been kept in the town council house no. 18 since 1671 and have been recorded several times. The surviving registers document the loss of documents, especially during the flood on September 6, 1910, when not only the town archives but also the documents of the local Liechtenstein estate were destroyed. Some of the documents ended up in the hands of private individuals, while the remaining documents were kept by the local teacher and town chronicler Jan Borůvka.
In addition to the town of Uherský Ostroh itself, the manor included 26 other small towns and villages belonging to the districtsof Hodonín and Uherské Hradiště. The Uherské Hradiště District Archives contain documents from the municipal archives of the towns of Hluk, Kunovice, Nivnice, Ostrožské Předměstí and the villages of Boršice u Blatnice, Chylice, Sady, Kvačice, Míkovice, Horní Němčí, Dolní Němčí, Ostrožská Nová Ves, Ostrožská Lhota, Slavkov, Strání and Vésky. However, as the writting of documents of the municipal offices was not very extensive until 1945, it is only possible to search for individual pieces of information and not for larger data files. Documents related to the exercise of patronage over the parishes in the dominion can be found in the archives of the respective parish offices. For the period of the 20th century, archival documents from the Okresní úřad Uherské Hradiště [Uherské Hradiště District Office] and Okresní národní výbor Uherské Hradiště [Uherské Hradiště District National Committee], which relate in particular to the confiscation of Liechtenstein property.
