The first archives in the area of today's UherskéHradiště district were established in the historic towns of Uherské Hradiště, UherskýBrod andUherský Ostroh, but also in the small town ofBojkovice. From the earliest times, each of these towns kept their town privileges and town registers and proceeded to record and organize their archives as far as possible. Actual town archives were established in the late 19th century. In Uherské Hradiště, the town archives were initially looked after by professors from the local grammar school and later by the town chroniclers. The most valuable parts of the archive were looked after by the Museum of Moravian Slovakia [Slovácké muzeum] in the years 1940-1948. In Uherský Brod, the archive was entrusted to the staff of the local museum immediately after its foundation in 1898 and the care of the town archive in Bojkovice, where the museum association was founded in 1933, was also based on museum activities.
The history of the regional archive itself began in 1946, when the archive was established by the Uherské Hradiště Regional National Committee. Although the archive was a district archive according to its statute, it had already been established as the basis of the future Gottwaldov District Archive, which was established on January 1, 1949. With the establishment of the district archive in Uherské Hradiště, which also administered the district and local collections, the local district archive practically ceased to exist. It was only the 1954 government decree on archives that created the need to renew the district archive, which took place in March 1955 in the premises of the Uherské Hradiště District National Committee. In 1960, the Uherské Hradiště District Archives were incorporated into the Uherský Brod Archives, whose director Marie Jašková took over the administration of both merged institutions. As the district archive in Uherské Hradiště did not have its own storage facilities, the archive material from the former Uherský Brod district was housed in Nový Světlov Castle in Bojkovice. The early sixties of the 20th century were characterized by the search for suitable premises for the archive and an improvement in its staffing. A final solution for the location of the archive was found when the branch of the State Archives in Brno, located in the Brno Franciscan Monastery, conscription number 124, was closed and the premises were handed over to the District Archives for use on December 15, 1964. In 1986, a general renovation of this listed building began, which was completed in 1997. After the abolition of the district offices, the Uherské Hradiště District State Archives became a branch of the Moravian Regional Archives in Brno on August 1, 2002.
Basic features of the archive holdings on the history of the House of Liechtenstein family
The Uherské Hradiště Regional State Archives currently manages 1644 archive holdings and archive collections amounting to 3348 linear meters. These include, in particular, documents from state offices with district jurisdiction, towns and municipalities, schools, agricultural cooperatives, parish offices of the Roman Catholic Church and associations.
The southern part of today's Uherské Hradiště district, which belonged to the Uherský Ostroh [Hungarian Ostra] dominion until 1850, is connected with the history of the House of Liechtenstein. The Archive města [Archive of the Town of Uherský Ostroh] should therefore be mentioned first and foremost. The documents of the town of Uherský Ostroh have been kept in the town council house no. 18 since 1671 and have been recorded several times. The surviving registers document the loss of documents, especially during the flood on September 6, 1910, when not only the town archives but also the documents of the local Liechtenstein estate were destroyed. Some of the documents ended up in the hands of private individuals, while the remaining documents were kept by the local teacher and town chronicler Jan Borůvka.
In addition to the town of Uherský Ostroh itself, the manor included 26 other small towns and villages belonging to the districtsof Hodonín and Uherské Hradiště. The Uherské Hradiště District Archives contain documents from the municipal archives of the towns of Hluk, Kunovice, Nivnice, Ostrožské Předměstí and the villages of Boršice u Blatnice, Chylice, Sady, Kvačice, Míkovice, Horní Němčí, Dolní Němčí, Ostrožská Nová Ves, Ostrožská Lhota, Slavkov, Strání and Vésky. However, as the written production of the municipal offices was not very extensive until 1945, it is only possible to search for individual pieces of information and not for larger data files. Documents related to the exercise of patronage over the parishes in the dominion can be found in the archives of the respective parish offices. For the period of the 20. For the period of the 20th century, archival documents from the Okresní úřad Uherské Hradiště [Uherské Hradiště District Office] and Okresní národní výbor Uherské Hradiště [Uherské Hradiště District National Committee], which relate in particular to the confiscation of Liechtenstein assets.
