The exhibition catalog brings together contributions by leading experts on porcelain art, the natural sciences and princely collecting in Baroque Vienna. Using numerous color illustrations, the work documents the interdisciplinary connection between art, science and courtly representation in the era of the 17th and 18th centuries. Particular emphasis is placed on the history of the porcelain manufactories, the culture of collecting and innovative developments in the scientific and social environment of the Viennese court.

Arthur Stögmann's article sheds light on the economic policy of the Princes of Liechtenstein in the 17th and first half of the 18th century by contrasting traditional practices with innovative reform approaches. Using archival sources, Stögmann analyzes the strategies of the princely administration in the field of tension between preserving established ruling structures and adapting to new economic challenges. Developments in land ownership, financial administration and agricultural production are critically discussed in order to illustrate the contribution of Liechtenstein rule to the modernization of the economic area in Central Europe.
