The Liechtenstein House Archive is the private archive of the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein and one of the best-preserved aristocratic archives in the German-speaking world. It is part of thePrincely Collections Vienna(LIECHTENSTEIN - The Princely Collections) and contains numerous documents that document the history of the Princely House of Liechtenstein and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Alongside the National Archives, the House Archive is the most important archive for the history of the Principality and also contains valuable sources on the history of the Princely possessions in Austria and the Czech Republic.
Holdings
The holdings of the House Archives are divided: The archive material up to the end of 1954 is located in Vienna, where the Princely Family resided until before the Second World War. The archives from 1955 onwards are housed at Vaduz Castle.
For sources relating to the Principality between 1699 (purchase of the Lordship of Schellenberg by the Princes of Liechtenstein) and 1719 (elevation of the two Lordships of Vaduz and Schellenberg to the Principality of Liechtenstein), the Liechtenstein e-Archive portal may be helpful.
