Cultural bridges in Europe. Nobility from Bohemia and Moravia after 1945

Description

The exhibition sheds light on the biographies of several aristocrats - including Prince Franz Josef II, Ferdinand Kinsky, Karl Schwarzenberg, Nikolaus Lobkowicz and Angelus Waldstein-Wartenberg OSB - and shows the historical and personal background to their involvement after 1945 in the context of developments in Czechoslovakia.

After 1945, many aristocrats were expelled from Bohemia and Moravia or fled from the communists. They often maintained close ties to their old homeland. They worked across borders to promote understanding, culture and Christian values - supported by responsibility and family networks. In addition to the biographies and activities of individual personalities - such as Ferdinand Kinsky, Karl Schwarzenberg, Nikolaus Lobkowicz and Angelus Waldstein-Wartenberg OSB - the exhibition shows the background to their commitment.

A new addition to the exhibition is the portrait of Prince Franz Josef II, which was created in cooperation with the Czech-Liechtenstein Commission of Historians and is being shown in Balzers for the first time. There is also a special Liechtenstein connection through Maria Kinsky - later Princess von und zu Liechtenstein - who can be seen as a child in one of the exhibited portraits by Ferdinand Kinsky. The history of her family exemplifies the close ties between the Bohemian aristocracy and the House of Liechtenstein.

Vernissage of the exhibition will take place on October 21, 2025 at 19:00 in Haus Gutenberg. Click here to register.
