Description

THE LIECHTENSTEIN-CZECH COMMISSION OF HISTORIANS INFORMED ABOUT ITS ACTIVITIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MASARYK IN BRNO

M. Číhalík, March 23, 2013:

On March 22, 2013, a presentation of the first printed output of the conferences of the Liechtenstein-Czech Historical Commission took place at the Faculty of Philosophy of Masaryk University.

This intergovernmental commission was established shortly after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic in 2009. The commission began its actual work in December 2010. Its primary task is to investigate historical relations between the two countries and to contribute to a better mutual understanding of history.

On 11-12 November 2011, the Commission organized a two-day academic conference in Vranov u Brna (Wranau) on the topic of "Liechtenstein Memorials in the Czech Lands". The lectures from this conference were published in Supplement 3 of the Časopis Matice moravské [Journal of the Moravian Matica]. Among the very interesting topics, the contributions of historians Tomáš Knoz, Thomas Winkelbauer, Jan Županič as well as art historians Michal Konečný, Radka Miltová and Lubomír Slavíček and other authors should be emphasized.

Jan Čižmář emphasized the festive atmosphere during the presentation of the anthology by playing the lute and performing contemporary music composed for the Liechtensteins. Prof. Jiří Malíř, Head of the Institute of History, emphasized the rapid and high-quality work of the commission, while Prof. Tomáš Knoz spoke about the individual contributions.
